How much will it cost?

When compared to the cost of sports and many other activities, Cub Scouts delivers great value to its members!

Costs include Scouting America membership fees, Pack dues, uniform costs, and nominal activity fees. Pack 253 functions as a year-round program and accepts new Scouts anytime throughout the year, some of the costs will depend on when you join. We hope that after you have reviewed this information, you will agree that Cub Scouts is a great value.

National Registration Fees

$85 per youth per year + one-time $25 fee for youth new to Scouting
Collected by Scouting America during the Cub Scouts application process (not retained by Pack 253).
Covers 12 months of membership. You’ll be notified as your Scout’s joining anniversary approaches.

Pack 253 Dues

$20 per scout per year
Dues to help offset the costs of awards, Class-B shirt, programming, adult volunteer membership fees and various Pack activities.

Additional Expenses

Scouts should have a Class A shirt and neckerchief. Hats, belts, shorts, pants, and socks are optional. For current prices, visit the Scout Shop or ask a Pack leader for guidance. See below for more information.
Activity and outing costs vary. The Pack covers Scout fees; families pay for additional attendees. Final costs depend on attendance, weather, and location.
Day Camp and Cub & Family Camp offer great experiences. Fees and gear needs vary—check with your Den Leader for cost-saving tips.

Fundraising

The bulk of the Pack's funds come from selling popcorn each Fall. We primarily sell in front of select local businesses over a few weekends in September. Families also sell to friends, family, and neighbors.

Uniforms

The uniform is one of the methods of delivering the Scouting program. In addition to creating a sense of belonging, the uniform gives a Scout the ability to display their personal achievements. Uniforms also help distinguish the level of a child within the program.

Both Scouts and Leaders in our Pack wear a formal, "Class A" uniform you purchase yourself. The age appropriate shirt and neckerchief are the only pieces of expected uniform. Socks, pants, shorts, and hats are at your own discretion. These pieces can be purchased online or the Nashville Scout Shop.

The Pack provides each scout with a less formal, "Class B" shirt for den meetings and outdoor activities. Familiy members are able to purchase their own Class B shirts.
